Personality & Traits

General Overview T'Vyn is a bit odd for her kind, opting to study xeno-psychology when her brother had a very public mental break. Serene would best describe her normal bearing, and seems a bit more... friendly than your average Vulcan.
Personality Stoic without seeming stiff, T'Vyn will even don makeup and don different hairstyles. Most because she is curious about how others will react to her. She is a careful woman, though more than capable of taking command of a dire situation.
Strengths & Weaknesses Strengths: *Intelligent
* Educated
* More fluid of mind than many Vulcans
* Capable in command
* Member of the Starfleet Diplomatic Corp

Weakness: *Under constant scrutiny by Vulcan overseers due to "familial emotional instability"
Ambitions T'Vyn is no chaser of rank or fame. Or infamy. She believes that it is important to start looking at the psychological toll during deep space missions. A vocal supporter of having counseling staff on board ships of the fleet in an attempt to catch red flags before they become an issue that could put the entire crew at risk.
Hobbies & Interests Languages, xeno-psychology and biology, cultural historical studies

Personal History T’Vyn was young for the rank and title that she held, especially for a Vulcan. Finding that she learned quickly, she was hurried through training, though such pressures never seemed to be to her detriment. Learning was a logical game to the girl, which made the learning process easier for her. How quickly could she learn something and still retain the knowledge?

As a result, she found herself at the science academy at a glaringly young age, some students having been present for as long as she had drawn breath. It was during this time that her elder brother suffered some sort of mental break, and was locked away after a physical altercation, muttering incoherent things to himself. While visiting him, he often mumbled at her as if she should understand what he was saying, but she found herself incapable of deciphering whatever code that he was speaking.

This curiosity sent her down a path of language and psychological study of various species, wondering if some hostilities were possibly a result of a misunderstanding. Also during those studies, she realized that their understanding of the various races was clinical, paying little interest to subtle variances in the way that each one presented such things as grief, and anger.

She was brought to task on more than one occasion for asking the wrong questions, and had elders breathing down her neck about the path that she was on. When T’Vyn flatly rejected the notion of the training for the Kolinahr, she immediately joined the Vulcan Defense Force for her time of service, focusing on general sciences as well as communications. This experience opened up the possibility to join Starfleet, as well as further academic studies. And to get away from the constant badgering of elders, being scrutinized at every turn to see if she was going to wind up like her brother.

Starfleet Academy gave her the freedom to study her chosen fields, even though there were still a few dour faces glaring at her as she asked her impertinent questions. She had even had to submit to regular testing to see that her mental faculties were still firmly in place. Whatever had happened to her brother, it was almost as if they were keen to find it in her as well. Again, tests never seemed to phase her, and the council had no reason to recall her to Vulcan.

The Vulcan woman was able to study a wide variety of life at the Academy, learning through trial and error to mimic the hairstyles and makeup trends, which she found to be intriguing. It was like warpaint and headdresses, or the mating rituals of the wild. T’Vyn had managed to find a style of simplicity for the hair that she kept long, and even wore a mild amount of natural makeup. By the time that she completed the academy, everyone had simply grown used to her oddities.

There were whispers that her first assignment was meant to see to her failure. Her time on the USS Victory was fraught with peril, not the least of which was the captain herself. The experimental nature of some of the tech had been a lot to keep up with, however, her station was communications and diplomacy. A task only made more difficult by the volatile nature of their captain.

After only a year, the captain had made more than a few blunders, stealing technology to incorporate into the ship. She ran the crew like slaves keeping everything going, and her schemes in the background took their toll on morale. The very young and inexperienced officer found herself thrown into the Executive Officer role when their second in command was killed early on into her service, and immediately found herself mediating more and more disagreements, standing between the captain and the crew.

One incident was the breaking point, and had stepped over many political lines. T’Vyn assumed command of the Victory, and managed to fend off the attackers, but many were left dead. And while she had earned accolades for her actions, her quick, calm thinking in combat, the Vulcan woman had had enough.

Most of their missions had been classified and buried once Starfleet finally stepped in and put an end to the captain’s escapades. She had contacted the fleet and turned on her captain, her testimony, in large part, sending her senior officer to a penal colony for a very long, very scrutinized, stay. T’Vyn returned to Vulcan after the trial, taking a sabbatical after the chaos that her first year of service had been, and what it had led to.

The Vulcan woman had spent time within the libraries, the statuary gardens, and pondered if she should take the Kolinahr training, purging herself of emotions. The Victory’s captain had been a glaring example of rampant, uncontrolled emotion. It had led to a year that had seen many beaten down, crushed under the weight of her control, their careers in shambles, and lives in chaos.

The scrutiny over her life became even worse after those events, and she was grilled and harassed over her state of mind. It wasn’t as though she had cracked under the strain, and she had always been quiet and contemplative. They watched her for any sign of emotional instability, any hint that she would wind up like her brother. After two years, though, she left Vulcan and returned to Starfleet under one of their diplomats in the Sol system.

During her time on Earth, she found herself a very vocal proponent of having counselors on board each ship, to help people to navigate the often perilous missions they are asked to undertake. The mental stability of the crew was directly related to physical health, thus should be taken as seriously. Every officer completed a mental evaluation to test for stability. Some slipped through the cracks and devastated their crews. Someone on board that could spot the red flags, could help prevent another Victory situation, after all. Prevention was worth more lives than people thought.
