Mission:
Episode 1: Planetary Exploration
Location: DS K-3/USS Eventide
The stars shot by like streaks of light. Tharynos sat by the window in the mess hall on the transport. It was pretty empty, save a few Starfleet Officers and civilians. No one really came out this way unless they needed too. He was in his uniform drinking a cup of coffee. He had a PADD out reading a novel that had him captivated. Every word he read made his heart pound. The psychological thriller was reaching a climax that he never expected. He sipped his coffee without taking his eyes off the PADD. The sharp whistle of the intercom startled him that he jumped and coffee went down the front of his uniform. He jumped to his feet trying to avoid the rest of it. At least he always brought a spare. He stopped to listen to the intercom.
“Arriving at Deep Space Station K-3 in fifteen minutes. Please prepare for disembarking.” That was him. A steward had already come over and was cleaning the table. Thar apologized as he cleaned up what he could.
After it was cleaned up, he made his way back to his bunk. Open the storage closet and pulled out his spare jacket and pulled it over his gray turtleneck. Grabbing the rest of his belongings, he headed to the waiting area of the ship.
The ship arrived right on time. Within 20 minutes of the announcement he was walking on the deck of DS K-3. He looked at his PADD. He was supposed to meet with the station Quartermaster, Chief Jacobi. There was a desk to the left that had a plaque that read “Quartermaster” that must be them. He approached, “Chief Jacobi.”
The man looked up from his PADD, “Welcome aboard Lieutenant Commander.”
“Therynos-Theronar Kyrek. Reporting to the Eventide.” Thar reported.
“Ah yes.” The quartermaster said as he looked through the console on his desk. “I have marked you aboard the station. This is for you.” He handed the Zyntherian a long black box. It had a card on top, “there is also a crate with your white undershirts already in your cabin on the Eventide. Also, Captain Draydon would like to meet with you once you are settled in on your ship. It’s docked at docking port C-2.”
“Thank you Chief. I will contact the captain.” Tharynos took the black box and walked off. The old K Class station was still an impressive station. She could have ships docked and host several thousand people. He walked through and looked at some of the contracted bars and restaurants that were there. A lot of options. He didn’t disembark for another day or two, so he would have to try some.
Finally he made it to C-2. He looked out the viewport and saw the small Oberth class science vessel dock to the station. There were two umbilicals attached to the ship. He could see shadows of a few personnel going back and forth from the ship to the station.
“Small ship, but not a bad one.” Someone said next to him. Thar turned to see an Andorian standing next to him. He was tall, broad, and blue. He wore an enlisted jumpsuit. He recognized him immediately.
“Admiral Moogana was able to get you transferred?” Thar said excitedly. “How did she get a Physical Training Specialist transferred to a science vessel, and how to convince you to come?”
“Well, I’m not sure she convinced anyone, but just transferred me. I didn’t mind getting the CoB spot. So I was happy. Plus I knew you would get a command someday, and I am happy that I get to be here to serve with you.” The Andorian, Senior Chief Petty Officer Ky'Dev th'Zarken said with a smile. “I have been on board. A typical science vessel. A lot of sensors and science labs. Should be able to get the job done. Whatever science and exploration Starfleet has us going out to do.”
Thar nodded, his bright orange eyes looking at the small hull of the ship. She was small, and wouldn’t stand up in a fight, but he wasn’t going out there to fight. He was going out to explore. Ky’Dev needed to go get some more supplies, so he left and Tharynos crossed the gangway onto the small ship.
Once inside, he looked around. The corridors were tight and compact, but that was expected in a ship this size. It wasn’t the Federation class that he was used to. He had studied the schematics of the ship so he knew where everything was. He wanted to see his quarters first. He walked through the door and looked around. It was small. It had a bed, a small sitting area with a desk, and a small bathroom. He set his duffel on the bed and opened the black box that the admiral had left for him. It was a white division strap with a single gray horizontal stripe and a commander pip. He smiled and he walked over to the mirror and changed out his full gray strap for the white one. He attached the Commander pip, smiled and pulled on his uniform to straighten it. He nodded and walked out of his quarters to see the rest of the ship.
